ABOUT

Benjamin Patch was born in Layton, Utah, and started playing volleyball by the age of 14. After playing for club or junior national teams, he played for BYU (Brigham Young University), where was named the 2013 AVCA Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-American as a freshman.

Patch left after his junior season to travel with the U.S. Men's team for the FIVB World League. He started 11 out of 13 FIVB World League matches in 2017 and was the team's second-leading scorer. The team won the 2017 NORCECA Championship.

Always connected to fashion, Ben found sport, and Berlin city as the best combination to help him express the way he wants. In October 2020, Patch publicly came out as queer in the German publication Der Tagesspiegel. He became the first openly queer active player in a German men's professional sports league.

Ben retired from volleyball in June 2022 and started his own design studio called Be-assembly. He has been an active voice in the Queer and Sports Community and has broken barriers with the subject, showing to the world all his empowerment and dedication.
